About
Synergizing Buildings Renovation and Regenerative Urban Furniture to Co-create PED Ecosystem
SET-PED pairs building renovation with regenerative, solar powered urban furniture to spark Positive Energy Districts,
co-created with residents in Mascalucia, Eskilstuna, and Bucharest, over a 36-month implementation period ending on 31 December 2027.

We believe in rethinking urban spaces—where renovation, renewable energy, and community spirit come together.
Our Mission
Build practical pathways for cities to integrate circular renovation with solar-powered, smart urban furniture. Through co-creation, we prototype and scale solutions that improve comfort, safety, and energy performance at district level.

Our Vision
Neighborhoods that generate more clean energy than they consume, where public space doubles as social and energy infrastructure, and communities lead the transition to climate-neutral cities.
Project objectives
SET-PED aims to integrate buildings envelope renovation and urban furniture design to co-create a new PED ecosystem across different climates zones. This project offers low-carbon, circular economybased solutions for public space transformation and energy resilience, utilizing local resources for codesigning and co-implementing smart urban furniture, integrated within the social landscape (as a valued place by the residents), and integrated within sustainable development initiatives: PED and also LEC . The project. It has four objectives:
1. model and assess envelope renovation designs using circular bio-based systems by considering cross-impacts towards both reduction of environmental impacts and increase building energy performances;
2. identify potential recycled materials for urban furniture to redesign production processes;
3. develop an urban furniture prototype in each participating country, using recycled building material and incorporating a solar PV, recycled battery storage, and micro-grid energy hubs (nodes) for the optimized energy flow in a PED or LEC context;
4. collaborate with different stakeholders to co-create a potential roadmap for smart urban furniture as the new standard in the case of integrated circular-economy-based renovation projects able to perceive the solution not just as a stand-alone element, but as a valuable intervention fostering PED and LEC diffusion and having the role of social coagulant.

Estimated results
SET-PED will not only design and test the smart urban furniture, but also consider the related specificity in diverse cultural and geographical contexts. SET-PED will be implemented in the three case cities, respectively in Italy, Sweden, and Romania, which will bring significant common values in terms of replicability and impact spread over the globe. In the end, the project is expected to create three types of results (R1, R2 and R3). R1 is a kit-of-parts or a manual enabling self-organized, need- and placebased smart urban furniture co-creation. R2 is a set of tools for the urban co-creation ecosystem by focusing on building envelope renovation and urban furniture design with digital knowledge and material bank. R3 is a public debate and knowledge transfer for solution replication, through prototype demonstration, workshops and events with the local implementation partners.
