 Eskilstuna

For Eskilstuna the Urban Furnitures pilot will take place in Fröslunda, a suburban neighbourhood located a few kilometers south from the city center of Eskilstuna. Fröslunda is the focus area for Eskilstuna’s “urban healing” concept—an initiative to raise quality of life in socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods.

Within Fröslunda, a key site has been earmarked as the starting point for a new urban park for everyday movement by pedestrians and cyclists and a suitable resource for children attending the nearby school. This is a place with a lot of potential.

As part of the pilot, Eskilstuna will further develop its working methods and processes for using reused and locally sourced materials. By integrating reused materials into the planning process from the start, the project aims to demonstrate long-term practices for sustainable urban development.

This sustainable approach and knowledge of working with reused material has a natural place in Eskilstuna, home to the world’s first recycling mall, Retuna. The municipality is also known for several other cutting-edge green initiatives to reduce negative environmental impact.
